School of Engineering and Technology

Master of Computer Applications (MCA)

A two-year postgraduate programme for graduates who want to move from competent to exceptional – deepening technical expertise, developing research skills, and positioning themselves for senior technology roles, doctoral studies, or entrepreneurship.

About the Programme

The MCA at Metro University is deliberately small-batch – 30 seats, a strong faculty-student ratio, and a research-embedded curriculum that challenges every student to investigate, create, and present original work. Built for BCA, B. Sc CS, and B. Tech graduates who want to reach the senior levels of technology – as architects, researchers, or founders. MCA students regularly co-author papers with faculty, file patents, and launch startups. The programme concludes with a two-semester dissertation that must make an original contribution – academic or applied.

Curriculum Overview

Research-embedded programme

Every student is assigned a research mentor in Semester I. By Semester III, they are expected to have at least one conference submission or patent filing. The dissertation is an original contribution – not a survey.

8 weeks between Semester II and III – longer than most postgraduate programmes. Partners include product companies, consulting firms, and government technology agencies.

30 seats means a faculty-to-student ratio that enables one-to-one mentoring, personalised feedback on technical writing, and access to faculty research networks at national and international conferences.

Students who want to launch a company receive structured support – DPIIT startup registration, prototype funding (up to Rs 50,000 through the incubation cell), and access to the university’s investor network.
