Introduction
Dr (Prof.) Purshotam Lal is an internationally recognised interventional cardiologist and the founding force behind Metro Group. With over 35+ years of clinical practice, he has played a defining role in advancing cardiac care in India, introducing more than 20 interventional cardiology procedures and pioneering non-surgical alternatives to open-heart surgery.
As the Founder of Metro Group of Hospitals in 1997, he has built a network that combines clinical excellence with accessibility. His work has consistently focused on precision, innovation, and service to society—principles that now guide Metro University’s foundation.
Journey & Contribution
Recognised as the Father of Interventional Cardiology in India, Dr Lal’s contribution extends beyond clinical practice into institution building and education. His journey reflects a shift from delivering care to developing those who deliver it.
From establishing a single specialised cardiac centre in 1997, he has expanded Metro into a multi-location healthcare ecosystem with strong clinical, academic, and research integration. This evolution continued with the establishment of Metro College of Health Sciences & Research in 2010, strengthening the foundation of structured education in healthcare.
